Symptoms of Spiritual Awakenings
Spiritual awakenings go by a variety of many different names. Occasionally referred to as mystical, paranormal, or sacred experiences, all of these phrases mean the same thing. By definition, spiritual awakenings are known as occurrences where people allegedly have communication or encounters with people, places, or things from an alternate divine universe.
Depending on what part of the world you go to, people’s personal beliefs in what they believe spiritual awakenings are can differ. Some view them as features of the brain that purely relate as part of scientific studies. However, others who have serious religious traditions and convictions view spiritual awakenings as actual contact with one or more gods, or alternate realities.
Examples of some symptoms that may be experienced during a spiritual awakening are as follows:
- Psychic or intuitive visions
- A feeling of being disoriented, confused, or overemotional
- An increase, decrease, or unusual change in breathing
- Body or physical sensations such as shaking, vibrations, or spasms
- Changes in prayer or meditation
- Feelings and thoughts you have that are physically manifested into reality shortly thereafter
- An increase or decrease in pulse or heart rate
- The feeling that time is moving incredibly fast or slow
- Headaches, back pain, muscle aches
- Feelings of dizziness or being lightheaded
- Large amounts of energy, followed by a “crash” feeling as if you have no energy at all
Lasting anywhere from a few hours to possibly years, spiritual awakenings can sometimes be uncomfortable. However, this is nothing to be alarmed about. It has often been said that through these types of encounters, the final result is a new sense of tranquility and peace that one has never witnessed before. Some would even say that it’s the experience of a lifetime.

These spiritual awakenings are often caused by physical and mental fatigue especially if a person is so preoccupied with works and problems. However, there are also awakenings caused by the devil himself which make a person possessed.
On the other hand, mystics and monks have also experienced awakenings which they claim to be an encounter with God or the Supreme Being. Whichever a person can experience, it will always drain one's energy as it dwells more in the mind rather than in the physical.
^ Many metaphysicists speculate that burnout is a result of spiritual awakening. It's also interesting to note, that Dr Carl Calleman suggests burnout is a symptom of mis-alignment with the cosmos (as introduced by his model of the Mayan Calendar and transformation of consciousness).
In my search for me or truth, it is beginning to seem I have a spirit I know not. Material I know spiritual I do not but their is awakening that haunts me I am beginning to feel it's my spirit. pljames
There is no reason it should haunt you. The light shall set you free - it's a meaningful statement for you to ponder on, and also the name of a book I'd recommend. It shines from within, so you're bound to notice this awakening internally. We know material/physical because we're born blind to spirit.
God touched me it was a extraordinary feeling. I now believe I have a spirit but question it because I do not understand it being born material and not quite understanding I am also spiritual which I am trying to get in touch with. I want to be more just material. pljames
